Atkins Diet Quick Hits: Zero Carb

In the this video of the “Atkins Diet Quick Hits” series, I comment on a question I got from a well-meaning low carber. His question was on the amount of what he was eating. I took his question and ran with it though to a different topic. Starvation mode dieting is never good, and similar is zero carb dieting. I am pretty convinced that for most people going zero carb is an unnecessary step. Sure there are some very metabolically resistant and / or people suffering with hyperinsulinemia. For the most part, most people should be getting their veggies in and not fearing adding back a reasonable amount of carbs. Trying to discover what the magic number per day can certainly be trying, but your health will appreciate it. Thinking zero carbs is the answer also misses number of things: * phytonutrients without getting more chemicals * fiber-rich vegetables * carbs present in other non-veggie sources, like nuts, eggs, or cheese Unless you are really hyper sensitive to carbs, enjoy the variety of nature and food selection.

i ate yesturday 4 big chillies filled with cheese and covered with egg on the outside, this is a mexican dish could this kick me off from ketosis because i had all ready ate my 20 carbs that i needed
thanks for such a quick reply.
I’ve been considering testing the waters on my son’s birthday next week to see if my body could handle a planned off meal, but I’m already feeling worried before it even approches. I guess I should go with my insticnt.
I wish I knew a recipe for low carb strawberry cheesecake cause I’d love a slice of that right about now lol
@trinny1102 I think only you can know yourself what way works out best for you. For me, I would rather take too much of the low carb treat — 2nd or 3rd piece in a day of low carb cheesecake than simply eating anything and everything. The first way has a bit of guilt with having to work out, etc., but the second way in my head would be the equivalent of worm in an apple. That’s just my mentality with special days.
Others like Jimmy Moore take a different approach. Know oneself is best advice.
@trinny1102 Ok, here is where I differ from many. I might over-indulge or care less about stopping when hunger is over on those days or eat too much of the low carb treats, but I don’t eat the mashed potatoes or pecan pie. That’s the line I have drawn for myself.
If you want or *can* take a planned off diet day and then go back the next day, then do that. I know someone personally who has said the same thing and that one day becomes 4-5 months routinely.
The first way works for me.
@bowulf sorry for the mega long post and I hope some didn’t post twice, my PC is being weird
@bowulf I haven’t cheated at all, not once in the past 5 weeks I’ve been dedicated to this WOE, Did you ever once let yourself slip on thanksgiving or anything?
I have very strong self control in this WOE, I had no cravings at all on induction the first week, so I am strong, but I don’t want to make any mistakes either.
@bowulf I’ve been heavily debting whether or not to have one bad meal on thanksgiving and my son’s birthday, I would never ever give up this way of eating, I love it, but thanksgiving without tiny scoop of stuffing or gravy is mentally bothering me even though it’s over a month away.
@bowulf thanks that’s good advice as I’d really regret 3 weeks from now if I gave up.
I just rejoined atkinsdietbuletinboard today, I’ve forgotten all about that site, I joined it as Blizette in 2004.
@trinny1102 I lost on average a little more than 4 pounds a week. That was me. Weight loss is different for everyone.
I can understand the frustration, but you are still losing. The weight is still coming off, and while it might not be as fast in week 6 or 7 as week one the body is still adjusting. Take a different look at this — where do you want to be 3 weeks from now or three weeks from now what do you wish you had done today?
That was what kept me going on my discouraging weeks.
how much weight did you lose weekly on average?
I’m only losing 1 lb to 1/2 lbs every week and I’ve got 160 lbs to lose and it’s making me upset.
I work out a lot at the gym, but have beeb slacking the past week because of this.
@hellasking69 I hear you. In rehearing the original comment, I am now skeptical that he was actually doing what he described because I doubt anyone could actually live on just that (one piece of meat) and still have the energy to post the comment.
1 piece of meat? is he on crack
@jcook287 XS Energy Drink
What energy drink did you speak of in you youtube video?
You are fantastic you know!
I am going through all your videos!
Ditto to what GTBonds said
Thank you. Your kind words are much appreciated, and it is good to know others find these videos still of use.
Please don’t pay attention to negative comments such as those that have been posted by some of your subscribers. Your videos are very appreciated by those of us who are truly interested in the low carb lifestyle. I find your videos very useful and relevant. Please continue giving those of us who need it your guidance.
Sorry next time I will put it in terms you understand or relate it to SF4 characters…
I admit I don’t make as high quality videos as your video of some pre-workout powder that cuts off your head and as you mumble your way through Jack3d powder. Or similarly of your Street Fighter 4 prowess. Good luck with that…
and I didn’t pay for your help thank god. Your speeches wouldn’t resonate in the grand canyon.
I think your mindset is quite a shame to be honest. I’m sure many people have the same problem. They think they can just eat once a day in order to lose weight. Yeah, you could have addressed the problem through this youtube video. Could help many many people in a similar situation. Why bother making videos if your gonna just tell people to “read a book”. I don’t get it.
As for my speaking skills, you got what you paid for it. If it doesn’t resonate with you, find someone else to watch.
I addressed their question in the private message.. You tell me you are only eating an egg or a piece beef jerky a day, I am going to say you should be following the rules of the diet. It’s obvious that they needed to go back to the book and reread it, and rather than retyping the book, having them actually read it might help.
I however used their question as a take off for a video.
you need to work on your speaking skills. That’s all I could think about when you were talking, the information was irrelevant. You should have addressed the person you were talking about in your video more too if you were going to use them as an example, let them know to eat frequently throughout the day to prohibit an increased rate of metabolism.
